Morphine Addiction Symptoms

Morphine addiction does not discriminate, anyone can become an addict; regardless of their race, wealth, or where they live.  Developing an opiate addiction is easier than you think.  In fact, it can happen to anyone; you don’t have to be prone to addiction to get caught up in morphine addiction.  In fact, many of the patients that are prescribed morphine are actually middle and upper-class Americans.  These people are battling illnesses cancer and liver disease, some are recovering from a trauma, but none of them set out to become dependent on morphine.  But, the good news is that there are usually many warning signs.

One important sign of morphine addiction is when a person begins to see more than one doctor, so that they can double or even sometimes triple the amount of medication they get prescribed each month.  This has been termed as doctor shopping, and is a sure sign that your loved one may have a problem.  An associated symptom is if your loved one seeks frequent care at emergency rooms or clinics.  This again can be a sign that a person has grown tolerant of their medication and feels they need more than one doctor is willing to prescribe.  Sometimes these patients will even fake pain or illnesses to gain the sympathies of a prescribing physician.

Some signs of morphine addiction are more alarming than others.  If your loved one is buying morphine from friends or from the streets, to increase their supply, they likely have a problem.  This can be especially serious because drug deals go wrong all the time, and you wouldn’t want your loved one caught in the middle.

There are many signs of morphine addiction that are common through all types of addiction, not just opiate addiction.  Some of the most common signs of addiction are the behavioral changes that patients go through.  These signs include a loss of libido, a disinterest in things they used to love, a lack of emotional connection, indifference, loss of productivity, withdrawing from friends, and the drug use becoming more important than all other activities in their life.  These behavioral changes can quickly alert you to an addiction problem, if you know what to look for.

The physical signs of morphine addiction, as well as most opiates, are many and varied.  The physical signs can include all of the symptoms associated with morphine withdrawal, like tremors, vomiting, sweats, breathing issues, and so on.  These physical signs can be easy to spot, alerting you that your loved one needs help.  Additionally, if you notice your loved one’s tolerance to the drug increasing, you should watch them carefully for any other signs, because an increased tolerance can lead to addiction.

Lastly, there are signs of addiction that only the user would be able to catch in themselves.  The first one is if you notice that you are in fear of limiting your morphine dose, you may have a morphine dependency.  This irrational fear stems from a psychological addiction to the drug.  Another sign of addiction is if you use just to avoid withdrawal symptoms.  Once you are in this situation, the only way to help yourself is to get addiction help.  A brighter future can be yours.
